Canopy (Zip Lines) and Cloud Forest Thursday 2-21-08

What a day at the Canopy. Mr. Bacon had mentioned the zip lines at the last meeting before we left for Costa Rica and expressed his fear of heights. He was not sure if he was going to participate and also informed me that Mrs. Marion might not be participating either. Soooo, me being the bravest chaperone of the bunch, I told Mr. Bacon I would participate in the canopy activity. To my surprise, Mr. Bacon and Mrs. Marion decided to join the students and I on this activity. We hopped on the bus, travelled to the top of the mountain, put our gear on, and were ready to go down this mountain on the zip lines...It was a great experience. The students could not stop ranting and raving about this activity. Awesome!!!

Michael Joy wanted to make sure he was following the ID policy in Costa Rica. Mr. Ryan would be proud!

Mr. Martinez - Seriously, put your pinky down.... Mrs. Marion - Are you awake?.... Mr. Bacon - There is not enough room in between these two pictures to comment on you!

On our way to the Canopy Tour. Boom looks a little apprehensive even with all of his gymnastics background.

We are on our way! Now everyone is looking excited - well except for Diane.

Ari looks excited...Fo' sho!!!

Hornets in the Cloud Forest... felt like home. The students were not apprehensive at all. Apparently Jess, Merrill and Arie thought it was going to rain 30-40 inches with their Banana Republic rain boots on.

Here's a close up of those dogs.

Mr. Martinez is preparing himself for the zip line.

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words... Mrs. Marion is "cheesin" as Boom said after he saw this picture. Mr. Martinez looks like he works for AT&T. Mr. Bacon is trying to concentrate on keeping his helmet from cracking. Mr. Martinez told Mr. Bacon he should have brought his helmet from home. . . I guess the chaperones were having fun in Costa Rica too!

This looks like a rough and rowdy crowd.

We all listened to the instructors give us directions on how to be safe on the zip line. We were very impressed with their knowlege of the equipment and procedure. Each participant wore a helmet, harness, saftey cable and gloves.

Diane is ready for adventure as Zuleika watches.

Morgan is in good position to cable over the tree line of the Cloud Forest.

Mike - good form!

The instructor found a bag of Doritos, a bag of Skittles, and Twizzlers in David's harness and was confiscating the items before taking off. Items were confiscated without incident.

No matter what we did this week Ari had a good time. Here she is on her first cable.

Here is a close up on those boots... she did look a bit "diva" for the Cloud Forest.

Kelly's smile does not look too convincing but she did more than fine!

Luke owns this forest.

Mrs. Marion did not think she was going to do this at all but the students convinced her and she had a great time!

Jessica on the other hand was first in line for everything. She is adventurous and confident in her skills!

Don't worry Keith has got this.

Mike thought if he bit his lower lip he would look tougher?

Here is what we saw from the zip line... it was truly beautiful.

After we got back from the last cable we all debriefed on how exciting it was. Mrs. Marion was extremely happy she did not chicken out.

Pura Vida! The Costa Rican Crew of Zip Liners.

It's a bird, it's a plane...Oh, it's just Bacon in the air. Who said pigs couldn't fly?

Excuse me as I kiss the sky...
